In today's #TuesdayTidbit, I thought I'd do some Random Running tips.

Winter Running Requires More Prep Time
I've found that Winter Running usually requires a little more prep time for me. Depending on how cold it is, I may have on several layers, and it can be a little time consuming to put on all of those layers.

Also, if I'm driving somewhere to run either outside or the gym, sometimes I can't just jump in the car and go. I may have to clean off snow/ice/frost. So give yourself a little more time when running or working out in the Winter. I've had to cut my workouts short because I ran out of time due to either clothing or having to clean off my car.

Be Flexible
Sometimes getting to the gym or outside just
isn't going to happen because sometimes the weather (or other circumstances) just prevent it from happening. So, be flexible with your workout schedule. Swap workouts.(I just personally wouldn't do back to back hard runs). Use what's available, and don't stress. Missing a run here and there isn't going to derail your entire training plan.

Add Variety
Doing the same thing over and over won't necessarily give you the results you hope to obtain. So make sure you add in variety to your workouts - not only for results but for your sanity.

Hydrate
Summer isn't the only time that you need to hydrate. Your body requires hydration in the Winter also.

Treadmills Have Settings
I know. I know. Not many of us enjoy the treadmill - hence the name dreadmill. To beat boredom, switch up the incline, vary the speed, run the mile you are in, and for me doing mile repeats helps pass the time.

Stay Motivated
Find what works for you to stay motivated. For me, I register in advance for races, and I set personal goals. But find whatever works for you to help you stay motivated.

Hydrogen Peroxide Removes Blood
Not running related, but my son had a massive nosebleed this past week. And when I mean massive, I mean massive. And it let loose again in the night. This time all over some things that couldn't go in the washer. I turned to Facebook where my friends told me to try hydrogen peroxide. TADA - it worked like a charm. Just a little tidbit that I wanted to pass along.

Last but not least, HAVE FUN!
Keep running fun. I've been in a running rut more than once. When it stops being fun, my suggestion to you is to stop and re-evaluate why. Make the necessary changes until it's fun again.

So there you have it - today's #TuesdayTidbit.

Do you have any running tips you'd like to add?

Running My Life

Wow, has it really been 2 years since my last post? I suppose that I allowed life to get in the way. For any faithful blog readers, I apologize. Although, I'm not sure how many people actually read blogs anymore. I think most people use other social media platforms.  (By the way, drop by and say hi on Insta. )  But for some reason, each year when I pay for my google domain, I can't seem to let it go. As silly as it sounds, this little space is mine. And lately I've been struggling with ownership and acceptance. And my domain renewal was a not so gentle reminder that I have a voice .  Seriously, you'd think by 48 that I'd have this figured out - nope - apparently not. However, I am wise enough to know that we have a choice to allow situations to harms us or make us stronger. I'm choosing to let this mid-life quandary make me stronger. And because of this, I'm setting goals, taking charge, and reexamining priorities.  Movin' on...

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

When The Planner In You Must Be Flexible

In case you haven’t figured this out by now, I’m a planner. I know - shocker right?!? :) So although I love substitute teaching, it’s making the planner in me anxious. And it’s been reeking havoc on my workouts. Basically the morning of or maybe the night before, I find out if I’m working. So my day ( that I thought I had planned ) can be turned upside down in an instant. But, truthfully, isn’t that really the same with everyone?
