#TuesdayTidbit - Small Changes Can Create Big Results

Tomorrow I'm turning 42, and this year I'm struggling with self image. So today's #TuesdayTidbit is how Small Changes Can Create Big Results.

I think sometimes we have the misconception that if you want to see results you have to make big changes, and that's not always true. When the reality is,
making small changes really can created big results. And I'm determined to start making some small changes.

Exercise
If you hate to exercise, don't feel that you have to jump in and workout 30-60 minutes every day. Chances are, unless you have a very motivating support system, you won't stick with it. Instead, start small by taking the stairs instead of the elevator, park farther away from store entrances, play tag with your kids, take a walk after dinner, just find a way to move your body. In time, these small changes will make a difference.

Nutrition
This is where I struggle, but total lifestyle changes doesn't have to happen overnight. Start by making simple swaps (sweetened drinks for water, sugary coffees for plain black coffee, replace one processed food with a healthy alternative, add a fruit or veggie to every meal). The list goes on and on, but the idea is simple. Where you feel that you need improvement, simply start making small changes.

I love sweets, and I don't plan on giving them up. I do however plan to modify the amount of processed sweets that I eat. And I plan by starting 'small', because honestly I've tried to go 'all out' and cut out sweets and for me personally it did not work. Instead, I'm eating smaller portions of the things that I love. Look for a future post this week about my upcoming goals.

Mental Health
I think sometimes taking care of your mental well being gets overlooked. I also know that everyone's situation is differently. Thankfully, I have a husband who realizes my need for exercise, and some 'me' time. Because the truth is, when I don't get it, I'm not a very nice person. So my family has realized it's better for everyone if I'm given that much needed time for myself. But I remember, especially as a new mom, that I struggled and felt really guilty that I needed a few minutes for 'me'. And even now, I at times still struggle with taking care of me. I know those that can get away for the day, or the weekend, or a girl's trip or girls night out. For me, it's a 20 minute soak in the tub, it's 10 minutes without anyone asking me for anything, it's a few moments to read or pray after everyone is in bed. The point is carve out some time for you, even if it's just a few minutes because those small changes really can create big results.

What small changes are you making in your life?

Running My Life

Wow, has it really been 2 years since my last post? I suppose that I allowed life to get in the way. For any faithful blog readers, I apologize. Although, I'm not sure how many people actually read blogs anymore. I think most people use other social media platforms.  (By the way, drop by and say hi on Insta. )  But for some reason, each year when I pay for my google domain, I can't seem to let it go. As silly as it sounds, this little space is mine. And lately I've been struggling with ownership and acceptance. And my domain renewal was a not so gentle reminder that I have a voice .  Seriously, you'd think by 48 that I'd have this figured out - nope - apparently not. However, I am wise enough to know that we have a choice to allow situations to harms us or make us stronger. I'm choosing to let this mid-life quandary make me stronger. And because of this, I'm setting goals, taking charge, and reexamining priorities.  Movin' on...

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

When The Planner In You Must Be Flexible

In case you haven’t figured this out by now, I’m a planner. I know - shocker right?!? :) So although I love substitute teaching, it’s making the planner in me anxious. And it’s been reeking havoc on my workouts. Basically the morning of or maybe the night before, I find out if I’m working. So my day ( that I thought I had planned ) can be turned upside down in an instant. But, truthfully, isn’t that really the same with everyone?
